Claude Code pricing in Canada, in Canadian dollars
Published
Claude Code is not sold on its own: it comes with a paid Claude plan or an API account. For one person the realistic starting point is Pro at US$20 a month — about CA$28.45 before tax. Heavy daily users move to Max, from US$100 (about CA$142.26). Anthropic bills in US dollars, so what you pay in Canada also depends on the exchange rate, GST/HST and your card.

Which plan, in plain terms
- Trying it, or a few sessions a week: Pro. It is the cheapest way in, and annual billing lowers the monthly cost.
- Working in it most of the day: Max. Usage limits reset on a rolling five-hour window with weekly caps on top, and Claude Code shares the same pool as chat — so heavy coding days are what push people up a tier.
- A team of two or more: Team seats add central billing and admin; premium seats are for the people who live in Claude Code.
- Automation and pipelines: an API account, paid per token. Predictable for scripted work, easy to overspend on interactive work — set a spending limit.

What a Canadian actually pays
Three things sit between the USD sticker and your statement:
- The exchange rate. The table uses the Bank of Canada’s daily average; your card issuer uses its own rate on the day of the charge.
- GST/HST. Anthropic’s published prices exclude tax. Under CRA’s rules for foreign digital suppliers, a non-resident vendor registered for GST/HST is required to charge it on digital services sold directly to Canadian consumers. Expect tax at your province’s rate and check your invoice.
- Your card’s foreign-transaction fee, if it has one — a reason some businesses pay US-dollar subscriptions from a USD card.
